Is This Really the World You Want?

The world we live in is vastly different from the world of 30 years ago.  Globalization and the growth of the internet made the world feel much smaller.  Technological advances have streamlined systems and made automation a cost-saving measure for many organizations that once relied on humans to complete repetitive tasks.  AI has only compounded this.

While technology was advancing, we were being conditioned to covet the newest item on the market.  Social media connected us with people of our past and obscure friends and family.  Staffing levels quietly and gradually decreased.  The pandemic allowed businesses to downsize even further.

Did we ever stop to think how these changes would affect our ability to sustain a certain level of security?  Did we ever ask to have our jobs replaced by machines?  Did we ask for corporations to consolidate into bigger corporations and be allowed personhood?  Did we ask for corporations to be allowed to bribe our politicians?

Did anyone actually agree that we should supply weapons to our allies and help countries destroy one another?  Why are we still fighting wars?  Are we really okay with these things?

Our freedoms are rapidly disappearing.  Our rights are quietly slipping away, one after the other.  Voting districts are being redrawn in favor of one party or the other.  Congress will never vote for term limits or to regulate their salaries.

I don’t believe that this is the country we asked for.  I don’t believe that this is the world we asked for.  We have been pushed along a path that we did not understand until it was far too late to retrace our steps.  We allowed the world’s governments to grow too large.

We allowed our monetary systems to be devalued by removing the gold and silver standards and then allowing inflation to cause there to be more debt in the system than there is money to pay for it.

And for what?  What did we get in return for this?  We have been priced out of housing.  Our wages have been stagnant as costs have skyrocketed.  Homelessness has become an epidemic.  Children are starving.  Criminal acts have become commonplace.  People have been desensitized to violence through gaming and entertainment.

Children are being separated from their parents and then disappearing into the seedy underworld of human trafficking.  Where do they go?  How do we get them back?  How can anyone defend this?  How can anyone agree that separating a child from their parents in this manner is okay?

All of a sudden, certain people believe that people should be deported for crimes and domestic violence.  Victims of domestic violence have been ignored for years.  How does a sudden urge to rid the country of the very people who make our way of life possible not raising any red flags.  They may have a criminal record, but what were their crimes?

When we raise our voices, we are told to be quiet.  When we come together to protest peacefully, we are gassed and shot with rubber bullets.  We have rogue ICE agents running around kidnapping people with what qualifications?  Are they trained?  Do they undergo background checks?  Do they have to meet certain qualifications?  Why are they allowed to wear masks?

Is this really the world we thought we would get?  AI has made it so we cannot trust what we are seeing.  It has been able to mimic people to the point where deep fakes are a serious issue.  The fact that they make exploitation of children and adults in a lewd manner so easy should be reason enough to ban it.

Do you really want to wait to see what is going to happen?  Things have gotten so much worse over the last 30 years.  Do you honestly think that the world’s governments and politicians are going to make anything better?  Is this really what you want?

I don’t understand this world.  People can be so cruel.  Our unhealed traumas compound and grown until there are so many monsters, we start to question if anyone is actually good anymore.  I have been observing people on the internet over the past few months.  The things that people say are appalling.  These things would never have been acceptable 30 years ago.

Society has been dumbed down to the point where inane phrases are commonplace.

Our educational institutions are ineffective.  We support teachers blindly as a whole, while there are plenty of teachers in tenured positions abusing children.  Testing is useless.  Higher education is a for profit business now.  So is the medical profession.  It is all rigged to benefit the shareholders, the top 1% of the people who have all the money.

But why do we accept money as a means of survival?  It is not necessary.  The world has plenty of everything for everyone, but money creates false scarcity and waste.  It allows abuses to persist in the name of Capitalism.  We have been brainwashed to accept this, but at what point do we get beyond the place where we can stomach this?

This is all wrong.  Am I the only one that can see it?  Doesn’t anyone else want to try another approach?  It isn’t too late to start over.  Why do we choose to follow such an unnatural way of life?  Even if you are able to buy everything you want, does having all of that stuff make you happy?

We spend so much time watching our favorite shows and movies, creating lore for our favorite fandoms.  But is any of this actually living?  Is living vicariously through a TV show really what we want?  Why do we not want to experience life anymore?  Why is it so scary to interact with other humans?  We have been isolated too long.

It is time for something new.  It is time to come together and form a thriving community.  It is time for us to share our resources and lift each other up.  It is time to help our neighbors.  There are far more people at the bottom of this hierarchy than there are at the top.  Why do we let them control us?  Why do governments need to be so big and far-reaching?

We really should start sitting down and discussing things rationally.  We need to start seeing the world for what it is, not the fairytale that we have been fed through various forms of media.  This is not the world we asked for.
